SGUK Episode 167

The Crown in Crisis:- Harry and Meghan –

 Redefining Royalty and Global Influence

Introduction

Today’s podcast (is the 2nd part of the podcast which ) explores how the flaws of UK Monarchy has been there for many decades but was generally ignored – by the use of the BRF Scapegoat being made to do the heavy lifting in setting a project on the road, and ensuring that completion took place, but the Heir to the throne always used to promote it and to take credit for its outcomes.  Harry and Meghan are now in control of their own destiny and no longer live off taxpayer funding – they earn their own money and are slowly building a business empire.  Creating legacy for their family. The BRF is now exposed more and more each day, as to what they actually represent, and the fact that the Monarchy is doing so badly, even with a sycophantic media primed to sell the UK Monarchy as top of the tree in Monarchies, and is therefore a template to follow. For those who are ready to face reality, they recognise how low in popularity the current King and his Heir have actually fallen. It is Uk media who write positive articles daily, depicting high popularity of the BRF, when the reality is, the current King’s popularity is low, and it clearly is not sitting well with the King, and to make matters worse, even less people are interested in the Heir and his Consort.  The Crown is very much in Crisis.

Redefining Royalty and International Influence

Let us explore how Harry and Meghan are reshaping the concept of modern royalty by stepping away from traditional royal roles.

The tale of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry is one that intertwines love, transformation, and resilience.

Their bold decision to step back from royal responsibilities and settle in the United States has not only been a personal evolution but has also reshaped the very essence of modern royalty.

This choice, while contentious, highlights their determination to forge a distinct path that balances time-honored traditions with the quest for personal freedom, all while tackling issues that resonate with society at large.

It all started like a fairy tale—a captivating romance that enchanted audiences worldwide.

Yet, from the get-go, their relationship faced intense scrutiny from the media, diverging sharply from the typical narratives surrounding royal romances.

Their grand wedding was more than just a celebration; it symbolized the dawn of a new era for the monarchy.  However, this enchanting beginning was soon overshadowed by the harsh realities of public life, particularly for Meghan, who endured relentless media attention that severely impacted her mental health.

This overwhelming pressure ultimately played a crucial role in their decision to step back from royal duties, a move that ignited widespread debate across the globe. By choosing to shield their family and establish a clear boundary between their public and private lives, they showcased a delicate balance between fulfilling obligations and prioritizing their mental well-being.

This pivotal shift allowed them to embrace new identities beyond the confines of traditional royalty, empowering them to engage in advocacy and charitable endeavours that resonate deeply with their values.

In the United States, Meghan and Harry have set out to redefine what it means to be royal by passionately advocating for causes close to their hearts, such as mental health awareness and social justice.  Their approach breaks away from conventional expectations, demonstrating that royalty can champion progressive movements while still paying homage to their heritage. This refreshing perspective shows that being royal doesn’t mean being stuck in the past; it can involve leading the charge for meaningful change.

Parenthood plays a significant role in their narrative.  Meghan and Harry are committed to raising their children with a profound appreciation for their heritage, yet they strive to protect them from the relentless scrutiny that comes with royal life. This thoughtful approach reflects their desire for a future where royal children can grow up feeling a sense of purpose while enjoying the freedom to carve out their own paths.

Through various initiatives and projects, Meghan and Harry continue to leverage their influence for positive change, illustrating how modern royalty can bridge the gap between tradition and contemporary values.

They have become something even more powerful than royals: They’ve become Relatable, Resilient, and Real.

From Palace Walls to Global Impact

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines when they chose to step away from their roles as senior members of the British royal family. Critics called it a scandal. Supporters called it brave. But what followed was neither retreat nor silence—it was reinvention.

Now based in California, Harry and Meghan have built a life centered on service, storytelling, and social change. Through their Archewell Foundation, they’ve launched initiatives supporting mental health, gender equity, and community resilience. Their work is global, but their message is deeply personal: healing, hope, and humanity.

The Power of Their Platform

Rather than relying on royal titles, the Sussexes have used their platform to amplify voices that often go unheard. Meghan’s podcast Archetypes tackled stereotypes that hold women back, while their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan offered a raw, unfiltered look at their journey—on their own terms.

Harry continues to champion veterans through the Invictus Games, a sporting event he founded in 2014. Meghan is often by his side, not just as a supportive partner, but as a co-architect of their shared mission. Together, they’ve proven that service doesn’t require a crown—it requires conviction.

A Legacy for the Next Generation

Their children, Archie and Lilibet, are growing up far from the royal spotlight, but close to the values their parents hold dear: compassion, courage, and authenticity. As Sussex Squad notes, their upbringing in Montecito reflects a conscious choice to prioritize privacy and normalcy over pomp and protocol.

This isn’t just a new chapter for Harry and Meghan—it’s a new blueprint for what modern royalty can look like. One that’s less about duty to an institution and more about devotion to humanity.

In redefining their roles, Harry and Meghan haven’t abandoned legacy—they’ve reimagined it. And in doing so, they’ve become something even more powerful than royals: they’ve become relatable, resilient, and real.

Prince Harry: From Royal Duties to Global Leadership

In a striking transformation, Prince Harry has emerged as a prominent figure on the global stage, leaving behind the confines of royal expectations. Once told that his worth was tied solely to his role within the royal family, where his duties revolved around ceremonial tasks like cutting ribbons and waving at crowds, he has now carved out a path defined by purpose and respect. Observing him navigate life away from those royal constraints is nothing short of inspiring.

The announcement of Prince Harry’s participation in the 2024 Concordia Summit captured attention. This prestigious event, took place in New York City from September 23rd to 25th, is a gathering of influential leaders from both public and private sectors.

It’s an opportunity for visionaries to come together and discuss pressing global issues during the UN General Assembly Week. The lineup of that  Summit was impressive, featuring not only Prince Harry but also notable figures such as New York Governor Cathy Hochul and Sir Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta.

Their diverse backgrounds  enriched the discussions, making the Summit a must-attend for those passionate about creating positive change.

As a champion for mental health, veterans’ rights, and environmental conservation, Prince Harry’s advocacy work has made significant waves worldwide.

His initiatives, including the Invictus Games, showcase his commitment to empowering others and addressing social challenges head-on.

His evolving role underscores a broader commitment to meaningful engagement with critical issues.

Governor Hochul, as the first female Governor of New York, brings a pioneering spirit to the Summit, focusing on economic recovery and public safety.

Meanwhile, Sir Nick Clegg’s extensive experience in digital policy and global communications was vital as the Summit tackled topics like technology’s societal impact.

His background as a former Deputy Prime Minister of the UK adds depth to the conversation surrounding online safety and digital innovation.

There are short profiles of other Speakers who attended the Summit, listed in the Reference Sources below, at the end of the article.

The Concordia Summit is more than just a gathering; it’s a platform for action.

The diversity of perspectives ensured that participants left with a holistic understanding of the issues at hand. Prince Harry’s inclusion among such esteemed company highlights his remarkable journey from a royal figurehead to a respected global leader. Harry is now a proactive advocate for change, demonstrating that true leadership transcends position and is rooted in impact. His story serves as a powerful reminder that we all have the potential to reshape our narratives.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, England’s Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are frequently in the news for their stance against paparazzi and their decision to step back from the British Royal Family in early 2020. But behind the scenes, this famous couple advocates for various matters. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s global activism expands beyond their home countries of the United States and the United Kingdom. They are frequent vocal supporters of global poverty issues, particularly those that affect children.

Meghan Markle’s Activism Before Becoming the Duchess of Sussex

Prior to her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan Markle was an outspoken advocate of gender equality in developing countries. She became a U.N. Women’s Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership in 2015. The following year, Meghan traveled to Rwanda and India as an ambassador for World Vision. World Vision is an organization that fights global poverty in children. The experience inspired her to write an op-ed in Time magazine about the effect stigma around menstruation can have on a girl’s future.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Activism

When she married Prince Harry and became a member of the royal family, Markle stepped down from these roles. However, this does not mean she stopped being a voice for those in need. Now, Harry and Meghan’s activism has launched programs and supported charities around the globe that fight to eradicate global poverty. Additionally, they inspire fans of the royals to become advocates themselves.

Their Trips and Projects in Africa

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, along with their young son Archie, took a 10-day tour of Africa. They visited South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Malawi in late September and early October of 2019. While there, the couple announced a variety of projects, including protecting forests, investing in technology and ridding the land of dangerous landmines. The Duchess of Sussex additionally announced grants and scholarships from the Association of Commonwealth Universities. This is an international organization that supports higher education and supports African girls in their journey to university and beyond.

During this same trip, Harry and Meghan met with members of the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) Association. CAMFED is a group of women advocating for girls’ education and global poverty issues throughout Africa. The royal couple used their platform to support these women. In addition, they shared their work with their 10 million Instagram followers.

Activism Work on Social Media

This was not the first time that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s global activism could be seen on their social media accounts. In August of 2019, the official Instagram account for the pair, @sussexroyal, began a series entitled ‘Forces for Change.’ They highlighted 15 organizations that they found inspiring or noteworthy. These organizations include Children International and Plan International United Kingdom. These two groups care and advocate for children living under the poverty line around the world. The simple act of sharing these organizations online spread awareness of the fight against global poverty. It also prompted followers of the Duke and Duchess to support these incredibly important causes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s global activism continues to inspire their followers and motivates them to take action just as the couple has done time and time again. In April of 2019, weeks before the birth of baby Archie, thousands of fans of the royal family donated to Meghan Markle’s favourite charities as a baby shower gift in what’s now known as the ‘Global Sussex Baby Shower.’ One of these charities is the aforementioned CAMFED. Additionally, this money directly supported global poverty and girls’ education initiatives in Africa.

In April of 2020, the couple announced their new non-profit: Archewell

From Royal Duties to Social Activism: Prince Harry’s Inspiring Journey of Transformation and Influence

Harry’s departure from Britain was not a mere geographical shift but an ideological one. He embraced a different way of living—one that prioritized mental well-being, personal freedom, and social activism. His candid revelations about his struggle with mental health, presented in the docuseries, “The Me You Can’t See,” is a testament to this transformation.

In the United States, Harry has embarked on a new professional life, apart from his royal lineage. Alongside Meghan, he co-founded the non-profit organization, Archewell, which aims to “uplift and unite communities” through diverse initiatives ranging from mental health resources to scholarship programs.

Prince Harry has also forged ahead into the corporate world. He took on the role of Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp, a mental health and productivity startup. Additionally, he and Meghan inked a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted television shows, and children’s programming through their company, Archewell Productions.

Despite the criticism and scrutiny that often tag along with his royal status, Prince Harry has been resolute in his commitment to effect positive change. By moving away from the traditional expectations of royalty, he has offered a fresh perspective on what it means to be a public figure in the 21st century – balancing personal life and public responsibility.

To conclude, Prince Harry’s journey is a narrative of transformation—one that has seen a royal prince evolve into an advocate for mental health, an entrepreneur, and a philanthropist. As he continues to carve out his path, he remains a figure of immense interest, both for his royal heritage and his forward-thinking endeavours.

  1. 2. Sussexes’ Evolution from Monarchy Scapegoats to Global Changemakers

A Royal Exit: The Sussexes’ Journey Beyond the Palace Walls:-

The fascination surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, continues to captivate the UK, even years after their departure from royal duties. This couple’s journey has sparked endless debates, dissected by self-proclaimed royal experts who seem unable to let go. Their every move is scrutinized, as if their personal choices could somehow unravel the very fabric of the monarchy itself.

Yet, Harry and Meghan have boldly chosen to carve out a life that prioritizes their well-being and autonomy, leaving behind the constraints of royal expectations. Some critics argue that Harry’s decision to step away from royal life equates to a betrayal of his family. However, this perspective fails to acknowledge the couple’s desire for a healthier, more balanced existence.

Their exit has undeniably altered the landscape of the monarchy, revealing a system struggling to adapt to modern values and changing societal norms. The Monarchy was destined to struggle, and the signs were there decades ago.  The establishment had no interest in facing what was coming over the hill.  The arrogance of being convinced that they would all be alright, based on no workforce planning or strategy on how to build in and develop ways to strengthen the Monarchy and to keep it relevant.  Instead, the BRF and its media and so called Royal experts, all took the easy way out and blamed it on The Sussexes stepping back, and moving to another continent.

Let’s not forget that that Harry and Meghan were willing to have a half in half out arrangement, but the BRF were adamant that was not going to be acceptable.  The outcome of that was that the couple moved away completely.  It also needs to be said over and over again, because all the so called experts, just appear to tell the BRF what they want to hear, as opposed to the hard truth of the matter.

A couple or a person leaving a family business does not and could never be the cause of that business failing.  If one person moving to another post elsewhere, and creating a new life elsewhere, could in any way, cause the immediate House of Cards to begin crumbling, then the answer is right there, and has been for decades.  It begs the question what was everyone else doing all these years, and in particular the Heir to the Throne and is Consort? They have gone over two decades without even one completed project to their name – as a couple or even on their own.  That is one of the main ‘in your face’ evidence that all of the BRF and its courtiers all chose to ignore.  The 4 Senior Royals combined, do not make one capable, mentally and physically able, and in no way has there ever been an honest evaluation of competency.

It was convenient to have someone to be the Scapegoat for the whole of the BRF but in particular the Heir to the Throne.  Everybody else could and did go on holidays every months, but seemed unable or uninterested in being part of a project, that required more than reading of a card, about its purpose, and then return to whatever luxury hole they occupied until the next ‘working ‘event of a few moments or so’ was scheduled for their attendance.

Harry and Meghan are not the reason for the failures and inherent weakness and lack of competency on any level.  It was the couple taking the chance to try and forge a new life for themselves and their children, that allowed the lights to shine on a group of people who were embarrassingly poor quality Royals.  They wanted the spotlight, but now that it shines on them every day, all manner of health issues have appeared, and many others are frail due to age, and there is no obvious Safeguarding Policy or procedure for the type of concerns which should be shown to those who work for the Crown.

There is no Harry now to be the Whipping Boy of the BRF, and there is no Meghan now to receive the attention that you all wanted to receive.  The BRF has everything that they wanted, yet, they lack everything that is required and needed to give the Monarchy a future.

Supporters of Harry and Meghan are global, and have zero interest in the plight of or day to day activities.  People in the UK are also less interested than they used to be.  I speak for myself, here, my focus and priorities in terms of charitable endeavours are all centred on Archewell Foundation and its various charities.  No concern for the BRF and its predicament at the moment.  Self inflicted harm done to the UK Monarchy, because of fragile egos who wanted the spotlight to be focussed on 4 senior members only.  Well you have had that spotlight since March 2020 – How are things going for you years down the line?

Perhaps it’s time for these commentators to consider allowing Harry and Meghan the freedom to live their lives without incessant judgment. Many tabloids seem trapped in a fantasy where Harry would abandon his beloved wife and children to return to a toxic environment rife with racism and hostility. The truth is that the Sussexes have firmly moved forward, leaving behind the venomous narratives crafted by the press. It’s high time these publications acknowledged that Harry and Meghan are not coming back, no matter how fervently they wish otherwise.

The impact of the media’s barrage of negative coverage on Harry and Meghan has been profound. The couple has faced immense stress and anxiety, forced to defend their choices against a backdrop of blatant racism and envy. Despite their efforts to focus on philanthropy and positive contributions to society, the constant stream of lies and vitriol has been relentless in the hope that the couple will fail and come crawling back to the toxicity in the Palaces.  Way past that point a long time ago.  That ship sailed.

This situation underscores the significant damage a media-driven agenda can inflict on individuals striving for a peaceful existence. The media’s insistence that Harry and Meghan will eventually return to royal life is almost comical. Even as Harry and Meghan build a new future for themselves and their children, the media seems stuck in a storyline of their own making, one that bears no relevance to the couple’s actual lives. Despite the couple’s clear and resolute decision to pursue their own path, the press clings desperately to an outdated narrative. Much like the approach to what a UK Monarchy will look like as the months go by. It is about time, a dose of reality set in and real discussions that contain some modicum of reality, would be a good start.  The number of breaches in various aspects of law, is going to come back on many of those who think they are safe.  Time will tell.  Meanwhile Harry and Meghan deserve much better than anything coming out of any of the Royal Palaces.

The ramifications of Harry and Meghan’s departure from the royal family extend beyond personal choices; they have reshaped how society views the monarchy.

Their journey is not just about stepping back from royal duties; it’s about reclaiming their narrative and redefining what it means to be part of the royal family in today’s world.

The ongoing fascination with their lives underscores a collective yearning for authenticity and connection.

As Harry and Meghan continue to navigate their path outside the palace walls, their story resonates with many who seek to break free from societal constraints and live life on their own terms.

The impact of their choices will undoubtedly echo through time, inspiring future generations to challenge the status quo and embrace their unique journeys.

the challenges they faced as scapegoats within the monarchy.

REFERENCE SOURCES: SCAPEGOATS TO DYSFUNCTIONAL MONARCHY

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were made scapegoats for the “dysfunctional” monarchy when in reality they were “royal rockstars,” the author of a new book has told Newsweek.

There are several reference sources listed under the headings of the framework for this podcast.  The above phrase, is probably one of the most honest statements made by any of the Royal media crews.  It has taken years for such statements to be spoken out loud.  Too late now, but work may be able to commence which will enable the Monarchy to have a few more years.  It wont be here decades down the line.

https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/sites/default/files/2023-05/future-challenges-for-the-monarchy-guest-paper.pdf

Future challenges for the monarchy – and for the government Maintainig popular support This final section mentions some of the main challenges facing the monarchy during Charles’s reign; and the legislative changes many people would like to see from the government. The first and most obvious challenge is to maintain popular support. Modern monarchy no longer depends on divine grace, but the consent of the people. During the Queen’s reign the monarchy consistently obtained support ratings between 60 and 80%; over the last 30 years support for a republic has not risen above 15 to 20%, even in the Queen’s annus horribilis of 1992.34 Early polls in the new reign suggest a small bounce for the monarchy, with 60% saying they think Charles will make a good king.  More worrying, however, for the monarchy is the much lower levels of support among the young; but the polling expert John Curtice suggests this age gap has been there for at least 30 years, with support for the monarchy growing as people get older. If public support does start to dwindle, pressure may grow on the government to reduce funding

REVIEW OF THE UK CONSTITUTION: GUEST PAPER for the monarchy, as has happened in Spain, where the monarchy enjoys lower levels of public support, and much lower levels of funding.

Scottish independence The next big challenge is the threat of an increasingly disunited kingdom. Charles’s tour of the nations was seen by some as a bid to save the union. If the Scottish government succeeds in a future attempt to hold a second independence referendum, can the monarchy remain neutral? The 2014 referendum was famously an occasion when the Queen’s usually impeccable neutrality seemed to slip for a moment. As someone who has been proclaimed King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, can Charles pretend to be unconcerned if he becomes King of a ‘Lesser Britain’? The standing of the monarchy will inevitably be damaged, even if responsibility for the break-up lies with the politicians and not the monarch. So it will be hard to stand idly by, but a greater risk to the monarchy would be to allow itself to be co-opted by unionist politicians, as Liz Truss attempted to do when she sought to join Charles’s inaugural tour of the nations.

It will be small consolation that the SNP wishes to retain the monarchy, so that an independent Scotland would become one of the realms, with Charles as its head of state. That would be a hard role to fulfil if the break-up leads to a difficult divorce, as with Brexit, with Charles trying to remain above the divisions of his fractious kingdoms. In addition the SNP has long had a fundamentalist wing who have no time for the monarchy; if the Scottish people sense that Charles’s primary loyalty is to his larger kingdom, they may press for an early referendum on becoming a republic.

Realms becoming republics It may be a different story with the other realms, the countries around the world where Charles is now head of state. Here too it may be seen as a blow to the monarchy’s prestige if some of the realms choose to reject Charles as King; but talk of the realms rushing to become republics is overblown, and for the monarchy their departure may even come as a relief. Barbados became a republic in November 2021, and Charles attended the celebrations to wish them well. The next countries seen as likely to become republics are Australia, Antigua and Jamaica. The new Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, has appointed Matt Thistlethwaite to a newly created post: assistant minister for the republic; but a referendum on becoming a republic is not a priority for his first three-year term.

In Antigua and Barbuda the prime minister, Gaston Browne, has said that he will call for a referendum in the next three years.

In Jamaica successive prime ministers have promised to lead their country to becoming a republic, but the process of constitutional amendment has prevented them from doing so: it requires a two-thirds vote in both houses of parliament, followed by a referendum.

Australia has a similarly high threshold, but its 1999 referendum disclosed a further layer of difficulty: how to select the new head of state. The proposition that a future president should be chosen by the parliament was defeated by 55:45, because most voters wanted the president to be directly elected, and chosen by the people.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were made scapegoats for the “dysfunctional” monarchy when in reality they were “royal rockstars,” the author of a new book has told Newsweek.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex suffered because the royals have never worked out how to handle the younger brothers and sisters of the heir to the throne, who are destined to live in their older sibling’s shadow, according to historian Robert Lacey.

In Battle of Brothers, published by William Collins, Lacey argues that the royal institution could not find a meaningful role for the couple and that Prince William‘s attitude to his brother was marked by rivalry.

“We know that Kate wanted to fit in right from the start by the way she changed her university destination to become one of William’s circle.

“Whereas Meghan as a young woman at the age of 11 got Proctor and Gamble to change their advertising about dirty dishes from ‘Women of America’ to ‘People of America’.

“Therefore it’s not surprising that there would have been difficulties and there should have been more thought given to how to accommodate these very challenging characteristics into the style of the royal family.

“It’s easy to be wise after the event and there could have been more compromises in the agreement hammered out in January.”

In addition to the royal family failing to properly manage the tension between William, the heir to the throne, and Harry, “the spare,” Lacey also suggested that the palace establishment mishandled Meghan.

Lacey said: “It may have represented an acknowledgement on the queen’s part that Harry and Meghan were at home, the royal rock stars who were overshadowing Kate and William. I think I do feel that William was overshadowed.

“There was a sense even when they were young that William was rather jealous of the loveable rogue persona that made Harry so popular.”

As the Invictus Games continue to grow and evolve, their legacy of hope and inspiration will endure for years to come

An extract from an article written by former Athlete Sebastion Coe on 14th Feb 2025:-

As the Invictus Games finished in Canada earlier this year,  it has yet again showed us the incredible and global power of sport. For many competitors, participating in these Games represents a turning point in their recovery

it is clear the significant impact these Games have on the competitors and their families – and watching these incredible individuals compete is inspiring. Each athlete brings their own unique story of resilience and determination, and their presence at the Invictus Games is a testament to their strength and courage.

The sacrifices these athletes have made are immense. The Invictus Games are not just about the competition; they are also about the journey and the personal growth that comes with it.  Many have faced life-altering injuries and illnesses, yet they have found the strength to push through, rebuild their lives and continue fighting. We hear how their journeys are marked by countless hours of gruelling rehabilitation, physical pain, and emotional challenges.

For many competitors, participating in these Games represents a turning point in their recovery. It is an opportunity to reclaim a sense of purpose and to prove to themselves and others that they are capable of achieving great things.  I heard some of these stories in 2016 when I visited the Lee Valley Sports Centre to meet some of the GB Team before they headed to Orlando for the second edition of the Games.

Their participation in the Invictus Games is a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity. And the impact of the Invictus Games extends far beyond the athletes themselves. For their families, friends, and communities, seeing them compete and succeed in the Games is a source of immense pride and joy.  As the competitors will tell you, their journey from fighting for their country to competing for their country is a team effort and the event is a way to say thank you to their team for the hours, days, weeks and months of support they have had.

Ten years on, the Vancouver Whistler Invictus Games have bought together 23 Nations and over 500 competitors.  And they have achieved something neither the Olympic nor Paralympic Games have done – combined winter and summer sports over 10 days in two locations.

The Invictus Games fosters a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect, and they create a global community united by a shared commitment to resilience and recovery, not just at the time of the event itself but with many countries initiating legacy programmes to celebrate veterans, to create sports facilities and opportunities for their veterans and their families to stay connected and to continue their recovery journeys together.

Sport has the power to inspire and uplift. Watching the athletes compete at the Invictus Games is a reminder of what is possible when we push ourselves beyond our limits. Not only that, the Games challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about disability, promoting greater inclusion and accessibility in sports and other areas of life – in a similar way to the Paralympic Games.

REFERENCE SOURCES:- The Narrative Control Shift: Netflix, and Upcoming Projects

To the Sussexes, partnering with the streaming service was an ideal collaboration, a source close to the couple shares with Harper’s Bazaar. It allowed them creative freedom to generate content that aligned with their values, from mental health initiatives to social transformation.

The deal has produced five major projects in five years, including the couple’s explosive docuseries Harry & Meghan, which became the biggest debut for a Netflix documentary upon its release and is still the company’s second most popular documentary series. Then came the docuseries Live to Lead, followed by Heart of Invictus, tied to the 2020 Invictus Games. And most recently, Netflix produced Harry’s Polo and Meghan’s With Love, Meghan. The latter show cracked Netflix’s Global Top 10 in 47 countries.

Unlike other projects the Sussexes have undertaken—like their reported $20 million deal with Spotify, which ended in 2023—the Netflix deal seems to have staying power. Proof? With Love, Meghan has already been renewed for a second season, and episodes will debut later this year. Beyond that, Netflix is a partner in Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, hinting that the company’s relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Kevin Mazur//Getty Images

This was a “big milestone,” Meghan said in the May 6 episode of her Lemonada Media podcast Confessions of a Female Founder. “Netflix coming on as my business partner is huge,” the duchess said. “Just having a global powerhouse that believed in me, and the site selling out in the first 45 minutes of launch—everything, every single piece that we had been working on. That told me that customers—people—believed in me and this vision. That’s all you really want as a founder. That becomes your proof point that those late nights and the midnight musings are worth it.”

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos told Variety in March that the Sussexes have been “overly dismissed,” and said specifically that Meghan “is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture,” adding, succinctly, that “People are fascinated with Meghan Markle.” None of this sounds like a business relationship that is imminently ending.

Netflix wants success, he says, adding that “Netflix would not have invested both monetary capital and social capital in Meghan’s lifestyle brand if they didn’t think it was going to be a winner.” Of the Duchess of Sussex, “you can see the direction she’s going, and it’s not a foolish direction,” Andrew Morton says. “It’s quite a clever direction.”

Morton adds of Meghan: “You see, you can get mesmerized by the wall of criticism that she gets, but ultimately it’s down to viewing figures.”

Meghan’s efforts “seem to have a lot more components in it, and it’s got more legs,” Morton continues, adding that this next year “is a critical year” as the “test for Harry and for Meghan is to make programs which are independent of their previous royal lives and are just encompassed by what they’re doing now.”

Karwai Tang//Getty Images

For Rachel Bowie, royals expert for PureWow.com and former co-host of the popular Royally Obsessed podcast, “all of this together is a sign that, yes, the deal the Sussexes have with the TV streamer will be renewed,” she tells Bazaar.

The Sussexes “seem like a worthwhile investment for the streamer,” Bowie says. “I think we’re in the beginning stages of seeing what Meghan, but also Harry, are capable of creating.” And for the couple, this all means “a platform and some editorial control.”

Joshua Sammer//Getty Images

A source close to the couple, while not explicitly confirming a future for the Sussexes and the streaming service, says that both parties have an “unwavering commitment to content that moves people.” The partnership, they add, has expanded into a comprehensive collaboration representing a strategic, long-term investment.

“Several exciting developments are still under wraps, but all will be revealed later this year,” the source says.

Prince Harry’s new Silicon Valley executive role is his latest step to becoming a billion-dollar brand with Meghan Markle. Here’s how they’ve been building a business empire in a post-royal life.

By Hillary Hoffower

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been building a business empire in their post-royal life.
  • Harry just took on a Silicon Valley exec role. They’ve also signed deals with Netflix.
  • The couple, which has an estimated $30 million net worth, is in position to build a billion-dollar brand.
  • Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.

After stepping down as working royals  the couple became financially independent, Their strategy to build wealth independent from the royal family is becoming clear as they line up several media and retail deals to fund their lifestyle.

First came a Netflix deal in September, followed by two deals in December: an investment in instant oat milk latte startup Clevr Blends and a podcast deal with Limonada. The moves signaled a turn for the couple as content creators, with a dash of venture capitalist investment.

Harry added two new jobs to his resumé: A new executive role at Silicon Valley mental health and coaching startup BetterUp Inc. and a part-time role as a commissioner for Aspen Institute’s new Commission on Information Disorder.

The couple plans to produce documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted television shows, and children’s programming under their new production company, which has yet to be officially named.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple said in a statement to The New York Times, which initially reported the news. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us,” they said, adding that Netflix’s “unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”

In December, Meghan invested an undisclosed amount in instant oat milk latte startup Clevr Blends. It’s Meghan’s first personal investment to be made public, Fortune reported.

Until Meghan Sussex’s investment, Clevr Blends had been self-funded, according to Fortune, which first reported the news. There’s no word on how much the deal is worth.

The brand, led by cofounder Hannah Mendoza, describes itself as a “woman-led, mission-driven wellness company,” and sells powdered matcha, coffee, and turmeric “SuperLattes” with oat milk, probiotics, and mushrooms.

Meghan spoke of the importance of supporting female-founded companies in a statement announcing her investment.

“This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritizes building community alongside her business,” she said in a statement to Fortune.

Clevr is based near Montecito, California, where Meghan and Harry moved earlier this year. It also donates 1% of its revenue to organizations fighting for food justice, according to Fortune, in line with Meghan’s many charity efforts.

The deal with Archewell Audio, the pair’s new audio-first production company, will focus on podcasts that will “build community through shared experience, narratives, and values,”

Harry will serve as the firm’s new chief impact officer — a role that will focus on “product strategy decisions and charitable contributions, and advocate publicly on topics related to mental health,” The Wall Street Journal’s Chip Cutter reported.

“I intend to help create impact in people’s lives,” Harry told the Journal. “Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-round better life.”

BetterUp says it’s used coaching, AI technology, and behavioral science to help mentees become more effective businesses, organizations, and employees.

While the firm didn’t reveal Harry’s compensation, CEO Alexi Robichaux, who met Harry through a mutual friend last fall, referred to the role as “meaningful and meaty.”

Chris Jackson/Getty Images

Harry will be a commissioner for the nonprofit’s new Commission on Information Disorder in an “intensive” six-month study fight misinformation and disinformation, per a Wednesday statement.

He’ll share the role alongside 14 others, including former GOP Rep. Will Hurd of Texas and Sue Gordon, the former principal deputy director of national intelligence. Harry’s role at the Aspen Institute will be part-time and will involve regular meetings, the institute said.

Harry said in a statement about his new Aspen Institute role, per CNN: “As I’ve said, the experience of today’s digital world has us inundated with an avalanche of misinformation, affecting our ability as individuals as well as societies to think clearly and truly understand the world we live in.”

“It’s my belief that this is a humanitarian issue,” he said, “and as such, it demands a multi-stakeholder response from advocacy voices, members of the media, academic researchers, and both government and civil society leaders.”

It’s unclear whether this part-time gig will be paid. Regardless, Meghan and Harry seem on track to build their post-royal wealth — and a potential billion-dollar brand — with similar deals in the years to come.

The Sunday night prime-time special with Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex — interviewed by Oprah Winfrey — didn’t make many front pages that I could find in the United States, (if you see more, let me know) but it’s certainly dominating the news cycle here and in the United Kingdom.

And the coverage itself is something.

More than a year ago, BuzzFeed News reporter Ellie Hall wrote “Here Are 20 Headlines Comparing Meghan Markle To Kate Middleton That May Show Why She And Prince Harry Left Royal Life.” That’s a useful primer for this.

Hall wrote, “Harry and Meghan have said publicly that they believe they have been treated unfairly by the UK press since the moment news broke of their relationship — that they are bullied, that there are racist undertones to coverage of them, and that they have been held to a different standard than Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate Middleton).”

Now let’s compare how Oprah’s interview was covered. We’ll start with some U.K. tabloids.

REFERENCE SOURCES: A Modern Fairy Tale: Harry and Meghan’s Journey to Authenticity – How Authenticity is Replacing Archaic Hierarchy

The world was enamored by the romance between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, an American actress whose charm and compassion captured hearts globally.

Their love story seemed like a contemporary fairy tale, a refreshing twist in the long-standing traditions of the British monarchy.

However, behind the glitz and glamour lay a more complex narrative, one marked by intense scrutiny and pressure that would test their resolve.

From the moment they became a couple, Harry and Meghan were under a magnifying glass, with every aspect of their lives dissected by the media.

Meghan, in particular, faced a barrage of often unfair criticism, much of which carried undertones of racism and sexism.

The fairy tale that many envisioned began to clash with the harsh realities of royal life, an institution known for its rigidity and reluctance to embrace change.

As the pressures mounted, both Harry and Meghan found themselves at a pivotal crossroads.

The relentless attention from the press and the challenges of royal expectations pushed them to reconsider their roles.

They faced a stark choice: conform to the demands of a system that seemed unwilling to offer protection or carve out their own path, even if it meant leaving behind everything they had ever known.

The decision to step back from royal duties was not made impulsively; it was the result of extensive contemplation about their family’s needs versus the constraints of an institution struggling to evolve.

Ultimately, it boiled down to a vital realization: self-worth.

Harry and Meghan recognized that their mental health and ability to nurture their children in a supportive environment outweighed the weight of tradition.

Their announcement sent shockwaves around the globe, marking a bold assertion of independence.

It was a refusal to adhere to a system that no longer aligned with their values.

In choosing themselves and their family, they struck a chord with millions who have felt stifled by societal norms, illustrating that sometimes, the bravest act is simply walking away.

The couple’s journey resonates deeply with the words of actor Denzel Washington, who emphasized that true strength comes from believing in oneself.

This philosophy guided Harry and Meghan as they navigated the tumultuous waters of royal life and their subsequent departure.

They chose to define their identities rather than be confined by the expectations imposed upon them.

However, embracing authenticity came at a cost.

Their decision to step back was met with mixed reactions, with some applauding their courage while others accused them of being disrespectful to tradition.

The negative backlash, particularly from British tabloids, painted them as villains, revealing the challenges of defying the status quo within such a historic institution.

Yet, through it all, Harry and Meghan remained committed to living their truth.

They understood that genuine freedom stems from aligning actions with personal values, even when faced with criticism.

Their resilience serves as a powerful reminder that the journey toward authenticity is fraught with challenges, requiring immense courage and determination.

Stepping away from royal obligations allowed the couple to redefine their lives on their own terms.

Free from the shackles of royal protocol, they pursued their passions and established Archewell, a nonprofit organization focused on uplifting communities and promoting compassion.

Through this platform, they advocate for various causes, including mental health, racial justice, and gender equality.

Their post-royal existence has been characterized by purpose and a commitment to making a positive impact.

As they embrace their new roles as parents, advocates, and entrepreneurs, they demonstrate that it is entirely possible to lead a meaningful life beyond traditional confines.

The narrative of Harry and Meghan is more than just a royal saga; it is a testament to resilience and the power of authenticity.

Their choice to prioritize their well-being and forge a new path has resonated with countless individuals worldwide, reminding us all of the importance of mental and emotional health.

One of the most profound lessons from their journey is the significance of setting boundaries.

By stepping away from the demands of the monarchy, they reclaimed their agency and prioritized their well-being.

This act of saying no underscores a crucial point: prioritizing oneself is not selfish; it is essential for living authentically.

As Harry and Meghan continue to navigate their lives outside the royal spotlight, they do so with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to effecting positive change.

Their journey inspires those seeking a more fulfilling life, emphasizing that true freedom arises from aligning actions with values and advocating for a better world.

In essence, the story of Harry and Meghan transcends the boundaries of royalty.

It embodies the universal quest for authenticity, freedom, and the courage to live a life true to oneself.

Their ongoing journey serves as an inspiration to many, proving that it is possible to rewrite one’s narrative and create a life filled with meaning and purpose.

The Differences Between Resilience and Post-Traumatic Growth

by Shirley Davis | Feb 8, 2021 | Building Resilience in HealingPost Traumatic Growth | 1 comment

As stated in article one of this series on resiliency, according to the American Psychological Association, resiliency is:

the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors. As much as resilience involves “bouncing back” from these difficult experiences, it can also involve profound personal growth.”

In the first article, we discussed resiliency, who has it, how it is formed, and how we all can attain it. This article will focus on the differences between resilience and posttraumatic growth.

What is Post-traumatic Growth?

Although some people get resilience and posttraumatic growth confused, they are not the same animal. Resilience is the process of adapting in the face of tragedy, where posttraumatic growth refers to positive changes experienced as the result of adversity in life or a life-altering crisis.

For instance, a woman has been in an unhealthy personal relationship for ten years. She has endured much pain and suffering both emotionally and physically. The woman enters group therapy to understand why she remains in the toxic relationship and learns that she is not stuck but can leave anytime she wishes.

Finally, after several sessions with her therapy group, she decides to leave and does so. The woman finds that she can do whatever she wishes with her life outside her relationship and turns a horrendous experience into a learning one.

The woman was resilient in that she endured the process of adapting to what was happening to her by attending group therapy. Then she expressed posttraumatic growth when she actually did leave and thrived in her new environment.

Again, the difference between resilience and posttraumatic growth is that resilience speaks of the woman’s learning through group therapy sessions and how tough she is and must consider leaving her abusive relationship (adapting).

The posttraumatic growth happens during and after her ordeal when the woman left (positive change) and continues when she learns to thrive outside her former relationship (positive growth).

The Five Forms of Post-traumatic Growth

As we have seen, posttraumatic growth refers to the positive changes from experiencing life-altering crises. There are several forms posttraumatic growth can take in five general areas.

Developing a Sense of Opportunity. People who face major life crises often develop a sense that they will experience new growth opportunities. For instance, the woman in our scenario above sensed growth opportunities after emerging from her long, painful, and abusive relationship. Through learning in group therapy, she knew that there were opportunities out there to learn to live and grow.

Change in Relationship with others. Through group therapy, our woman experienced a sense of closeness with her group and an increased feeling of connection to them. She used her closeness with her group to launch her forward into trusting others outside her circle.

I Can Live Through Anything. Change in the woman’s sense of her own strength causes her to feel alive and vital again. In this state, the woman feels strong enough to finally leave her partner.

A Greater Appreciation. Our woman has learned and experienced a greater appreciation of life in general. She enjoys her life more and interacts with more people to connect with, making her feel good about herself.

A Change in Beliefs. Some people experience a deepening sense of their spiritual lives or simply experience a significant change in their belief system. Our lady may feel a deeper connection with her god of choice or, because of her traumatic experiences, decide to not worship a god but to enjoy nature. Either way, she cannot avoid dealing with her spiritual self.

Some Other Realities About Post-Traumatic Growth

Distress is typical when facing traumatic events. Many of us, when going through posttraumatic growth, face exceedingly difficult suffering. Although traumatic events are not a good thing, experiencing a life-crisis is inevitable. The difference between forming posttraumatic growth or not is how we respond to the stresses of life.

For some of us, these life-altering events do not allow the choice between suffering and growth.

Post traumatic growth does not happen to everyone, but then again, not everyone experiences a life-changing crisis. Also, not everyone who faces trauma experiences growth.

In Closing

While resilience is the process of enduring during a personal life crisis, posttraumatic growth is the positive changes that occur during or after the crisis has passed.

Post traumatic growth takes on several forms in five different areas. These changes involve different states of growth: developing a sense of opportunity, having a change in relationships with others, realizing that you can survive anything, better enjoyment of life in general, and having a change in a survivor’s belief system.

All five areas work together to make a person thrive after experiencing trauma.

“There is a moment in our healing journey when our denial crumbles; we realize our experience, and its continued effects on us won’t “just go away.” That’s our breakthrough moment. It’s the sun coming out to warm the seeds of hope so they can grow our personal garden of empowerment.”
